0671 Nightmare type and its association with suicide attempts among veterans

Abstract Introduction Research has begun to distinguish between idiopathic (no known origin), trauma-related (recurring after a trauma), and complex nightmares (trauma-related that recur comorbidly with sleep disordered breathing). Nightmare type may impact symptom severity as well treatment outcomes among various patient groups. Thus, we sought examine the individual effects of nightmare on suicide re-attempts and, secondarily, utilization. Methods This is secondary analysis electronic medical record data. Data were extracted for all Veterans documented attempt (using ICD-10 codes) during FY13-14. A 1:1 case control was then created using age, sex, prior year behavioral health The present sample comprised from parent dataset who carry an diagnosis disorder (n = 3207). Groups defined follows: 1) Idiopathic 589; only); 2) Trauma 3207; plus PTSD); 3) Complex 576; + PTSD sleep-related breathing disorder). Results Multiple logistic regression revealed only positively associated (B 0.16, SE 0.06, p < 0.01), estimated odds ratio 1.27 (95% CI 1.02-1.57). Regarding utilization, analyses both 0.36, 0.05) 0.31, significantly mental healthcare utilization (total days). Conclusion Our results are Only re-attempts. Overall, suggest increased Support (If Any) work supported by VA Center Excellence Suicide Prevention in teh Finger Lakes Healthcare System.
